New Year.  New You?  Unlikely.

While my husband rolls his eyes so large he could move the Titanic at the mention of a New Year resolution, I still like making them.  I’ve made many over the years that never really stick.  My house isn’t any more organized, I still carry some pregnancy weight and have a tendency to buy more shoes than any one human can wear.

But, Moms have to be optimists.  You have to wake up each morning, ready to hope this will be a good day, your child will spread sunshine in the world and you’ll try to be the best momma for your kiddo.  If you don’t start each morning with that hope, that optimism, how do you get up in the morning?  Inevitably, grumpy children, chaos and stepping on legos will bring you down.

With that mom optimism, I set off to set a resolution I’m sure to break.  This year’s resolution, to be able to eat in the dining room each night.  I have a tendency, once all the holiday entertaining ends, to turn my dining room in to a storage area until the next Thanksgiving.  But this year – this year will be different!

My children set their resolutions and have quit on them already, nine days in.  But really, it was tremendously unlikely they could only use one cup a day – I’d be happy if they got just one cup a day in the sink!  As for the resolution I forced my husband to have (by forced, I actually decided for him which one he should have and then tried to convince him it was his idea), time will tell if he’ll put molding on any of the rooms he’s done renovations to.  We may just continue to be the house with the most rooms unfinished.  This is the year, right?
