Traveling with a toddler can be tiring and stressful.  Even with the most careful planning, you may still find huge moments of stress.  There may be giant meltdowns that even the sweetest toddler can’t cheer their momma up during.  My children are always trying to calm me during meltdowns and sometimes I’m beyond help.

Until the candy tip.

While traveling for a long period of time, I bring a big bag of their favorite candy.  Every time they throw a shoe at my head while driving, scream on an airplane or run away at a train station, I eat a piece of their candy. It’s even better if I can shove a whole handful in my mouth.

It is a dual-purpose tip.  The children, wide-eyed from the candy-eating monster mom quickly go silent.  Sometimes in shock.  Sometimes in awe of the amount of candy I’ve shoved in my mouth.  While I’ve never told them that candy was for them, the sight of lost candy generally brings silence.

Second, it gives me a bit of a sugar rush, that little bit of an energy boost that helps get me through until the next escapade.
