As we approach Mother’s day, I thought I’d take this opportunity to honor my own mother.  Honor the things I swore I’d never do and never be – yet increasingly find myself doing.  Just like her.  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Mom!

I know I’m not alone, so I reached out on social media to hear what other moms do just like their mom.  Here’s what they said (and be sure to let us know where you fall).

Top 5 Ways We Are Like Our Own Moms – And Still Can’t Believe It

5: Did you poop?  One mom swore she’d never ask her kids if they pooped that day.  Yet, how often is this a high point in conversation?  Mostly because, as she said, “pooping solves the underlying issue of about everything.”

4: Missing out on playing Remember those times your mom sat on the side lines, “watching” and you probably thought to yourself, “I’ll always play with my kids!”  How’s THAT going? “Now I realized she was enjoying the peace and quiet.”

3: The lick cleaning – Ugh…it still grosses me out to think about.  I’ve personally come ridiculously close to doing it, but have luckily held back (maybe due to my own vehemence that I would ABSOLUTELY NEVER do it), but not others.  You swear you’ll never do it, but which is worse, a little licking a napkin and wiping a face, or the judgement of all the others when you bring your dirty child out.

2: Because I said so – Is this one of the hardest things to refrain from doing?  How can one child question so many things?

1: Yelling – Nearly every other response was moms, raising their hands in guilt, acknowledging they’ve yelled, when they swore they’d never do it.  *sigh* Don’t worry momma, tomorrow’s another day to try again!

If only we as kids could have scaled way back on the mom judgement!  Think our daughters will?
